This is navtec's COSPAS-SARSAT solution for EPIRBs. Our EPIRBs provide a world-wide coverage. The techncal data of navtec-EPIRBs fulfill a IEC- und ETSI-specifications as well as the IMO-requirements. The navtec EPIRB global-C plus is COSPAS-SARSAT approved also. Desription:
 
The navtec EPIRB is a lightweight, portable emergency transmitter for aeronautical and maritime use. It operates in conjunction with the low earth orbiting COSPAS-SARSAT satellites as well as the GEOSAR satellites and provide a rapid transmission of identification and position information in the event of an accident. This guarantees that the distress call is forwarded with minimal delay and minimizes the probability of data loss during transmission. A remote control unit (RCU) is available.

EPIRB stand alone Version
global-C / global-C plus EPIRB

The navtec global-C / global-C plus EPIRB can be used "Stand-Alone" without a cradle. In this case
only manual activation is possible
  • global-C / global-C plus versions can be retrofitted with a cradle.
  • global-C /nH can not be retrofitted with a cradle

This picture shows the activation switch which is secured by a security device
against inadvertand usage. In case of an emergency the ring has to be removed or broken before manual activation.

The navtec EPIRB global-C can optinally be retrofitted with a remote control unit (RCU). The RCU allows for a remote activation from the ship's bridge. German (MMSI) ships can enter the nature of distress. Click on the picture for an explanation.  (approx. 30kByte).

A 50mW homing beacon on the 121,5 MHz frequency is integrated in all navtec-EPIRBs. This homing beacon allows for direction finding of approching SAR ships and helicopters.

In case of activating the beacon navtec-EPIRBs automatically transmit messages via satellite to earth stations and to the next rescue co-ordination centres, containig th following information:
